.0-080 Tree Description: White oak is the State Tree of Illinois and probably was the most common oak originally seen at the cemetery. The species thus may have been responsible for the cemetery name. This specimen, called the “Lewis Oak”, is one of the oldest and largest remaining from the founding of Oak Ridge and it is a landmark for the grave of famous labor reformer John L. Lewis.
