Tree Description:
94-09 The Deam oak (Quercus ×deamii) is a native hybrid of bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa) and chinkapin oak (Quercus muehlenbergii). Second generation (F2) trees often revert to look mostly like one of the parents. In this case, our tree most closely resembles the bur oak parent, and can be described as F2 Deam oak, affinity bur oak. There are others of this accession at Oak Ridge, and they all have the extremely corky bur oak bark uncharacteristic of the original tree.
