0-017 There are several old-growth post oak trees (Quercus stellata) at Oak Ridge, and all of them predate the Civil War and the founding of the cemetery. The tree has rock-hard wood, grows very slowly, is found here on dry slopes, and can live for many centuries. Springfield is very near the northern edge of the natural range of this species.
