0-036 The black maple (Acer nigrum) is a close relative of sugar maple (see 0-037), and many of the oldest maple trees here at Oak Ridge seem intermediate between the two. Notice the leaves with impressed veins and long drip points, and on vigorous growth, the stipules at the bases of the leaves on this black maple.
