Cory Hybrid Oak – 94-03i

Tree Description:

94-03i   This cory hybrid oak tree, like several others at Oak Ridge, was derived from swamp white oak and chinkapin oak (Quercus bicolor × Q. muehlenbergii F2) (= Quercus ×coryana) and was grown from seed collected here in Oak Ridge. It has reverted substantially to the Quercus bicolor grandparent (this phenomenon is called “affinity Q. bicolor”). Compare it with the other Cory oak trees near the Monument Avenue entrance and see if you can spot the minor differences that such hybrid trees sometimes exhibit.
