Cory oak – 94-03

Tree Description:

94-03 – One of our Cory Oak (Quercus xcoryana) F2 specimens, this beautiful oak tree was grown from tree 0-099, the erect-formed specimen planted long ago on the cemetery grounds in the Garden of the Good Shepherd (Block 43) and still standing today. It is a random hybrid of chinkapin oak (Quercus muehlenbergii) and swamp white oak (Quercus bicolor), as confirmed in the early 1990s by the famous Morton Arboretum dendrologist Dr. George Ware. As you tour the grounds, compare it with additional offspring from the original (ortet) tree when you explore the trees of Oak Ridge.
