Dalechamp’s Oak – 99-14b

Tree Description:

99-14b – One of the interesting but least known smaller oaks of eastern Europe, Dalechamp’s Oak (Quercus dalechampii) is almost never seen in cultivation in the US. Closely related to the larger Quercus frainetto, some botanists who don’t live among them and see them in all seasons give up trying to separate them. They are called lumpers by their cohorts, and those botanists who recognize distinct and consistent differences are called splitters. (The tree probably just laughs at both!) This is a tree from the mountains of northeastern Hungary and western Transylvania.
