Mockernut Hickory – 95-14a

2025 Tour

Tree Description:

95-14A – Mockernut hickory (Carya tomentosa) is a long-lived tree with beautiful fall color found scattered in parts of Oak Ridge, and all of the old growth trees here are believed to existed before Oak Ridge was created. This one was grown from a spectacular old tree in Phelps County Missouri, but it would be difficult to tell it apart from any of the old trees here on the grounds. If you find a seed, try to grow it at home.
