Northern Red Oak – 0-086

Tree Description:

0-086 – A Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra) was planted here in the Garden of the Good Shepherd (Block 43) prior to when our tree studies began more than 50 years go, and it is one of several you will see planted nearby. Red oaks are colorful in the fall and can become some of the largest of our common native oaks. but they are rare at Oak Ridge and spontaneous original trees are almost nonexistent here. The acorns mature during the second year after flowering.
