Tree Description:
96-13 – There is one original Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra) still found in Oak Ridge, in Block 15, so we decided to grow another from that tree to preserve the local ecotype. Like the various other trees of many species you can see on this tour, it was left behind when hundreds of trees were moved out of the nursery into permanent locations on the grounds, so it remains here and will be preserved as part of the historic nursery landscape. You might find buckeye nuts under the tree (lucky, but not edible!) and you should feel free to take one to plant as a reminder your visit here.
