Pale Hickory – 99-03

2025 Tour

Tree Description:

99-03 – Carya pallida is known as the pale hickory, and it resembles black hickory in many ways. It is an endangered species in Illinois at the edge of its range (a few can be found in Trail of Tears State Forest), but this one was planted from seed collected in Georgia where it is more common. It is quite happy here when grown on a reasonably average site, and it can become a tall tree with beautiful foliage and bark. It is one of the hard hickories, closely related to most others except the pecan types.
