0-047 This persimmon tree (Diospyros virginiana) is a male and bears no fruits. Persimmons are colorful, long-lived native trees that also can be seen northeast of Lincoln’s Home National Historic Site and next to the Illinois executive mansion. This specimen is believed to be the oldest one at Oak Ridge and grows near the grave of John Kelly, Springfield’s first resident.
