Tree Description:
0-111 – This is a fine specimen of the native River Birch (Betula nigra), found planted in a few other places at Oak Ridge and elsewhere in Springfield. It is unusual for birches due to its tolerance of heat and its resistance to the bronze birch borers that kill many other birches in our difficult Midwestern climate. In the wild it is found along streams and in other periodically wet areas.
