0-035 Saucer magnolia (Magnolia ×soulangeana) is one of the hardiest ornamental magnolia trees and is commonly planted in the Midwest. It was introduced as a hybrid in 1820, so old specimens can be seen occasionally in the yards of Victorian homes. Oak Ridge once had a double row of these trees running through this valley, most of which were killed by a scale insect attack. If you look southwest through the fork in the tree, you will see the obelisk of Lincoln’s Tomb.
