Tree Description:
94-21a – This is the Steudel Oak (Quercus xsteudelii), one of very few planted here at Oak Ridge from a tree found at the Morton Arboretum labelled as Tree #422-48. Its parentage is white oak (Quercus alba) x chinkapin oak (Quercus muehlenbergii). The trees vary considerably due to a genetic process called F2 segregation and this one seems to be the most typical of those we have examined closely. Thus, if you are a botany student and you want to learn the Steudel Oak, this is the one to study. This tree was planted in memory of Stuart Bennett.
