0-037 Sugar maple (Acer saccharum) is the classic sugar maple. But there are several variants and related species, including black maple (Acer nigrum, see tree 0-036) and many intermediate forms found throughout Oak Ridge. This particular tree develops a bright and long lasting fall color, and combined with the oaks, holly, dogwoods, conifers, and other trees in the entrance area, this tree group provides a spectacular display each autumn.
